Sub-Assembly.

In sub-assembly, more than 140 welding and handling robots are used in the highly automated production of complete body components such as the doors and closures.

More than 50 million smaller fixings are welded on by hand. Over 303 child parts are then turned into 171 assemblies, which are then dispatched to Plant Oxford by lorry. In 2010 nearly 30 million different parts left the plant, and over 15.5 million assemblies.

A just in time system is used in the pressed part and assembly store so, from the parts being requested at Oxford, the logistics team have four hours to get them there.
